Founder's Story
In 2016, I embarked on a journey that would change the source of my life. My name is Gijs Groeneboom, and I was fortunate to travel to various corners of the world. As I wandered through cities and remote villages, I was struck by the inequalities that exist and the profound impacts of climate change. I saw firsthand how the lack of resources and sustainable practices were hindering communities, and I knew then that I wanted to be part of the solution.
We see ourselves as a forward looking group of passionate ESG professionals with the relevant experience to help you prepare for a better future.
Determined to make a difference, I returned home and chose to study project management with a special focus on sustainability. My academic journey was about discovering how to turn great ideas into action. During my bachelor’s studies, I dove headfirst into creating social ventures that aligned with my passion. Among other initiatives, I started a small repairing and selling second-hand bikes to reduce waste and promote eco-friendly transportation. My next venture was growing mushrooms, using the discarded coffee grounds from local restaurants and organizations to turn waste into a sustainable source of nutrition.
But the most rewarding part was the collaborative efforts I engaged in with other business owners. Through co-creation, I realized that sustainable impact wasn’t just about what one person could do – it was about what we could achieve together. The energy, creativity, and drive that emerged when people with a shared vision came together was something truly special. It was in these moments of collaboration that I discovered my true passion: empowering businesses to amplify their impact on the world.
For four years, I worked alongside organizations in diverse sectors – construction, manufacturing, finance, IT, and the public sector – helping them navigate the complexities of sustainability. Each project was a new opportunity to learn, to grow, and to make a tangible difference. Yet, I felt there was more to be done. I wanted to create a platform through which we could help even more organizations to thrive sustainably.
In the summer of 2024, Aster Projects & Consulting was born out of this desire to scale our impact. Aster, symbolizing love and wisdom, represents our commitment to nurturing sustainable growth for our clients. We understand that meaningful change doesn’t happen overnight, but through thoughtful planning, dedication, and collaboration.
